Bundelkhand region which has a population of over 2 crores has been facing severe droughts since the last one decade, leading to several unnatural deaths and farmers suicide. Banda was the most severely hit and in all the nearby regions around 70% of tanks, ponds and dug-wells dried up as a result of the steep fall in surface and ground water table*.
