A couple getting back their boat into the river after the Kerala floods of 2018

Kerala saw a series of several floods in August 2018. 14 districts of the state were devastated killing 483 people and displacing over a million. This rainfall received by state was about 42% above the normal*.

Now that the waters had receded a bit, this husband and wife felt frustrated and decided to take out their boat to go into the river. Their boat was on the other side of the road and so they took it out, cleaned the debris and mud and carried it to the river. Their house was at a distance from here, still substantially submerged. This was the first time they are going into the water after the devastating floods.
