A locked house during the kerala floods of 2018
During the kerala floods, about 1028000 people were housed in nearly 4000 relief camps and shelters. The flooding affected hundreds of villages, destroyed an estimated 10,000 km of roads and thousands of homes were damaged or destroyed*.
There has been a storm in the area which has completely devastated houses and building everywhere and yet, for me, there is an immense stillness and calmness in this picture. The colours, the patterns, the solitary shirt hanging on the line in a corner speak of an encumbered silence while the locked rooms at the same time hint to a bygone disaster.
