The last standing door of a warehouse found amidst ruins of Gujarat earthquake (2001).
The earthquake killed more than 20,000 people, injuring over 1,67,000 and destroying around 3,40,000 buildings. Out of the 25 districts of Gujarat, 22 suffered severe loss*.
Massive godowns and warehouses are built in the hope to store things for the future, huge locks and metal doors made to seal the openings, but disasters leave nothing at all. The metal door stands as a testimony of the courage it had shown it front of the disaster while the rubble underneath provided foundation for it to remain stable even when everything was destroyed. The stability of the door standing in paradox to the instability the region is into after the disaster.
