Kashmir Floods

2014

Wrecked cars on the streets two weeks after the Kashmir floods of 2014.

Unexpected rainfall in 2014 triggered the flooding of Jhelum and Chenab. In Srinagar, most of the city areas were submerged under water*.

A big challenge in Kashmir was that a lot of the localities in the area were built at a lower ground because of which they were severely impacted by floods. Even when machines were used to pump out water, it inadvertently came back. This is the reason why these regions stayed submerged until the river and flood water completely receded off.
